
I am looking for an experienced Communications Officer to join our constituency office.
Location: Newbridge, South Wales.
Hours: full-time or part-time.
Salary: £24,468 to £36,864 (IPSA pay scales). Starting salary dependent on relevant experience.
Responsibilities will include:
- Monitor social media channels, respond appropriately to posts and comments, identify issues that require escalation.
- Monitor media coverage, produce press releases, meet deadlines as appropriate.
- Generate compelling content for the MP’s social media channels.
- Write engaging and informative copy for social media.
- Produce monthly newsletters.
- Help to manage the MP’s diary.
- Capture, edit and publish videos and photos.
- Create high-quality graphics.
- Assist with queries from members of the public by phone, email, social media or face-to-face.
- Draft responses to constituents.
- Assist with other tasks as directed by your line manager.
- Attend constituency meetings as appropriate.
- Meet the needs of the MP which may include unsociable hours.
Skills and experience required:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to handle challenging situations.
- Ability to work unsupervised but as part of a team.
- Knowledge of relevant digital software packages.
- Experience of using social media advertising platforms.
- Editing and design skills – audio, visual and graphics.
- Experience of writing copy specifically for social media.
- Good knowledge of social media trends and ability to analyse metrics.
- Diary management.
- Highly creative and collaborative.
- Flexible multitasker, able to work across multiple projects to tight timescales.
- Awareness of current political issues.
- Basic understanding of media law.
- Experience in a similar role.
- A commitment to Labour aims and values.
